What We Know

  • The game will be around 10 hours long.
  • There will be at least two playable characters, with more available.
  • Two inventories, one quickly accessible for healing, quick interactions, change weapons or use items, with the second inventory being for maps, notes, game options and item combinations and descriptions.

Ongoing Commentary

It’s not often you get a horror title being developed for the Vita, Ipad and Iphone that looks this good, interesting and exciting.

Forgotten Memories, announced in 2009, is being developed on the Unity engine and is being scheduled for release for the IOS and Wii U. The premise of the game is simple enough, you play as an inspector who must find Eden Swank, a young girl who has managed to escape from her kidnappers only to be stuck in this hospital. You’ll be playing as Rose Hawkins alongside her partner Nathan Howard as they too venture into this abandoned hospital, which they’ll find is full of horrors like they’ve never imagined.

Now the developers have stated that the game will mix both elements of classic and modern survival horror games, with a fear system at the core of gameplay. Add to this that there will be multiple characters who will fight beside you, each with their own personalities and weaknesses, and stand by you as you try to solve riddles and puzzles of this place as you inspect the hospital. Boss battles are further promised as well as confronting enemies.

Also it seems Eden may not be the only victim of this kidnapping as it seems there will be others who use their environment to avoid confrontation and stay alive. To what degree we have to interact with them or how many others there are remains to be seen.

Shadows are one of the enemies you can see during the most recent gameplay footage released (check out the gallery) and they will cover their weak spots if you try to aim at them, they react to light thanks to the dynamic light and shadows of the title. Only small concern is that in the gameplay trailer they seemed a little to slow though I’m sure this is just an early build and the final version will have much more fierce and quicker enemies.

Anyway like or comment if you’ve got anything to say and be sure to keep following this page as Forgotten Memories furthers its developement and nears its release date.

Shadow Of A Soul is an upcoming indie horror game which is intended to be a trilogy with the first chapter coming this year, though the game has been plagued with delays and problems which has lead to this year now being the release date. Now there is an official trailer out titled The Room – and what we are actually seeing are the final moments of a man as he confronts the horrors that plague him here. Whether this is Jack, the protagonist, will have to be seen.

Now the developer has stated that Jack is stealing the blueprints in an industrial espionage operation only to find once inside the complex that sounds and visions plague him before he feels that something supernatural is keeping him here for now and we’ll follow him as he explores the place encountering many more horrors. Along the way players will have to solve puzzles, search for clues to uncover the mystery.

Now the developer has made it clear that the supernatural element we’ll be facing are ghosts and though the game is linear in structure theres a possibility that if a player where to die, then the environments would be randomised upon their next attempt. Unfortunately as is the nature with upcoming games, especially the horror ones, this is a lot of the information only available to us.

Hopefully Shadow Of A Soul finally finishes development where it will be available to play on PC, Mac and Playstation.

Dead State – Eye On

Dead State (2013)*

Dead State Cover

Dead State is an upcoming RPG set at the dawn of a zombie apocalypse. You must try to survive with a shelter, looking for resources, stringing up alliances with people you do and don’t trust as humanity faces extinction and the world slowly crumbles. And in this world of the survival, only the strongest can survive and it may not be the zombies after all that will be your greatest threat…

Ongoing Commentary

Zombies. Something about the allure of it all is the reason why T.V, Film and Games keep coming out and the demand for material on the subject keeps staying high. If it helps to inspire and produce games such as Dead State, keep them coming.

Dead State has us on the eve of a virus outbreak, signalling an outbreak of zombies in the fictional town of Splendid, Texas and what the developers intend to do is to create a world and immerse the player into a world where the realities as well as how you’d survive socially are explored.

The game makes use of a view that is isometric and the characters line of sight, switching between the two to undoubtably create a different gaming experience. You’ll be able to customise your character when you start as well as improve them during gameplay.

The zombies, though the game takes place during an outbreak, will not be the main threat to the player as they’ll only be strong in numbers and such numbers only gather the more people in an area. This means that other groups of survivors besides your own will have to be interacted with and this is the main focus of the game, your group. Your group will be stationed at the base which is a school (though we may be able to acquire new bases later on?) and keeping these survivors happy will be your main goal as crisis situations may occur within your group and it’ll be up to you to make the decisions that can affect you all. These zombies will be your typical slow moving walking dead though there may be a surprise or two, who knows.

Now the loosing conditions are interesting as even if you’re bitten you can still survive due to antibiotics, though there’ll be a mode to disable this for all you hardcore gamers or losing control of your base of operations. Ultimately this truly is about people living through a zombie outbreak threat not dealing with the threat and saving the world.

Seeing as the game is about survival, the gameplay reflects this in its non linearity and the world of Dead State will be entirely explorable and you can return to the story, written by the writer of Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, at any time which will give a great sense of freedom.

Now the combat is turn based, meaning you’ll be shouting orders to you and your allies, as well as equipping them and making sure they stay to fight, for low morale and other factors can change their loyalty on the battlefield, so this style of combat may not be to everyones liking.

Of course though you’d never be able to explore the world weak as you are at the beginning of the game, which is why there’ll be the following skills you can improve, though they can’t be all maxed out during one playthrough; survival, mechanical, melee, ranged, medical, science, negotiation and leadership. Add to this the presence of  4 Stats which will can be improved as you earn experience until you get a skill point to use to improve your Strength, Agility, Vigor and Perception improving your character speed and total weight you can carry among other improvements.

Now to get to the intriguing promised aspects of Dead State. The developers have stated the use of several new mechanics as well as claimed high A.I, which will allow human enemies to devise tactics, fellow survivors to react realistically in combat. Also they promise that zombies will react to sound and resource management amongst your group will allow swift organisation. It’ll be interesting to see all this in action once DoubleBear productions is ready.

*Dead State is tentatively due to be released in the 4th quarter of 2013 though this is subject to change and is being developed for PC.

Tengami – Eye On

Tengami (2013)

Tengami Cover

Tengami is a unique game created by UK developers Nyamyam, a three person team, where players will marvel as a pop up world in a Japanese style along with it being set in the Japan of fairy tales, this is a visual stunner and interesting game coming this summer.

Ongoing Commentary

Recently in the United States there has a resurrection in the old played out debate that video games=violence. It would be foolish to argue with these people that games, first off, do not force a person to start climbing tall historical monuments or jump on innocent turtles and second that videogames can be art.

Tengami is the most recent example of how art can be combined with gameplay to create a very appealing game.

The game is styled and the plot draws inspiration from traditional Japanese art and folklore. This is all combined into a pop up book world, for instance if you enter a house, the world ‘turns pages’ to the house  and it becomes part of the world as you explore it. Words sometimes don’t do the game you’re talking about true justice and I would advise to watch the trailer (below) to fully understand this concept.

The Japanese influence is clear as the music playing is clearly influenced and the landscapes as you cross the world are wonderfully crafted. Now the game isn’t focused on action as the focus will be on puzzle solving, using typical pop up book elements to solve them so action orieanted game players will not find the pace to their liking as there are also no quests or levelling up system though there will be a main objective, though this won’t be told to us up front. The controls will make us of the IOS touch screen by double tapping to control the character and you will influence the whole folding world in this way.

And while this game may not be to everyone’s liking, you can’t deny the creativity and dedication in creating a title such as this one and I eagerly await as the release date draws closer to the summer where the game will be released on IOS and later on PC, Mac and recently announced Wii U.
